a short stopover in Christchurch

(2015/02/03)…the weather was still windy and getting more cloudy when i arrived at Christchurch. I was driving there around to find something interesting, but i didn’t. After i was getting closer to coast of Christchurch, i figured out that there was still a lot roads closed due to the big earthquake, some years ago. The road along the cliff (Redcliff area) was protected by hundreds of shipping containers which protected the street under the ridge. Still a lot of houses on the ridge standing damaged and partial over the ridge. My navigation system wasn’t that up to date, so there i had a lot of detours to drive to get to my destination. Maybe on the days before my flight from Christchurch i will do some sights and pictures there. Not really attracted by Christchurch, i passed the airport, because i had to figure out how much my, already packed, art project now weights and to have a number to get an quote for shipping it to the next burn. 29 kg. Okay, under 30kg, which is the common limit for regular postal send instead of official freight send. Also a short stop at Noel Leeming to buy a new external USB disk, because my current makes already strange noises and seems to be dying soon due to a drop to the ground at the airport. Instead of staying a night in Christchurch, i decided to stay at an free campground,  a few km north of Timaru. It was still windy, but i found a spot where i might had a shelter of the wind. The temperature at night or better in the morning at 6-7am dropped down to 6 degrees. I woke bye the cold, got up, saw the beautiful sunrise, got a picture and slept two more hours in the car, engine one, in the warm…
