bye Maui and back on O’ahu for X-Mas

…today, the next day, it was still a bit raining and we (Lulu, Paul and myself) wasn’t sure about the road conditions to get back to capital, so we went to the general store. Lulu and Paul tried to find someone who gives them a hitchhike with her bikes back and i got the information of an local policeman that the road is currently open but that can change within minutes, if the rain gets worse again. Still in my mind that i have to get my tent dry i said farewell to the lovely couple and got on the road again, destination Kahului.

As i had no chance to enjoy the beauty of the “Road to Hana” on arrival, it thought that it wouldn’t be possible today because of the rain, but that was false. Due to the rain all that small creeks and waterfalls turned in to wild waters and it looked great and it was easier to spot as when i arrived. Some of the creeks was now flowing across the street instead from down under. While driving i passed some rock and mud slides who blocked half the road and i warned the upcoming cars, that they don’t crash in it, because with all that leafs on the road, it was really slippery. Already some engineers with heavy machines was clearing the street. After few stops and pictures the rain got worse again and headed on. Luckily a local car, no better, a local a towing car and an towed car on his back was in front of me and i got an easy was to follow him. The yellow flash lights and with the heavy rain, it felt like having an Safety Car in an race in front of you who slows all cars down. Safety Cars always drive in front to the first place driver. That was a nice feeling. The yellow flash light let a lot of people stop, so you passed all that one lane bridges without stopping for miles. I noticed that VW Bus that he is towing who had an funny registration plate. “LAM <numbers”, LAM? LAHM? Phillip Lahm, and i had to thought about friends RV (Wohnmobil) who’s name is “Philip Lahm”. May this man has towed an farer uncle of Matu’s “Philip Lahm” RV.

It felt weird, because i had the backseats flipped off, AC and heating near on full power, so that i might have a chance to dry my tent. At the end of that awesome and adventuring “Road from Hana” there was an backpacker standing on the road, in the rain. He was totally lucky that i stopped, he was standing the for an hour, and we headed to one of my spots, where i stopped for sleeping before, and he helped me to spread the tent in the shelter over some benches so it can be dry. Later the sun came out a bit and i had the idea to return to the laundry where i did stopped on the first days.

Thanks that no one from the staff was in the laundry so i had no worries to put the tent into the dryer. 14 minutes and 7 quarter coins later the tent was perfectly dry and i headed back to my Safeways parking lot in the next city where i packed and prepared my stuff for the next flight tomorrow at noon. Finally i tried to got an place in the Safeways cafe, because my MacBooks battery was empty and i needed power to continue my blog. Sadly there where some people sitting and occupying all power plugs since the time i arrived at about 5pm. Crazy! Some pepole using this as their office or gaming station. There was an guy with an crazy gaming laptop in an hard shell case, gaming pad, gaming headphones and played an online shooter for hours. At 10pm i got an spot where i charged my MacBook and started to write and prepare some blog posts.

…the next day was the 24th and woke up by my alarm clock, because i met up an FaceTime session at 7am with my family, aunt and uncle when they was already together for dinner at 8pm. After that i finished some blog posts and uploaded some picture before i went to the airport and cached my flight to O’ahu. Short after the start i got an good few on one of the neighbour island from top out of the airplane, Moloka’i. While approaching Honolulu  Airport i got a nice view from distance to Waikiki. All that procedures on the airport, picking up my car, same questions that i don’t want an upgrade and i am happy with the smallest car where routine now. This, the second time on O’ahu, i choose an hostel on North Shore to get an short view of the other side of the island.

I had enough time so i decided to drive the long way around the island to get to the hostel, so drove south, passed Waikiki, Diamonds Head, Hanamau Bay and then drove north via Waimanalo, Maunawili, Kaawa, Kawela Bay and finally arrived in the hostel in Pupukea. All that way along the coast on the other side of the island was amazing, so less touristy, the mountains as awesome skyline, better beaches then on the other side and the beach parks with innumerable surfers, gave this island the aloha flair back and collected points again to compensate the boring and “ugly” touristy side with the hotel skyscraper concrete bunkers. I finished this day, satisfied, with an shrimp salad bowl and an Gorden Biersch / Blonde Bock beer. For the next day a met up with Anna and Alex was planed…(2014/12/23-24)
