hiking on “Mars” and the way to Hana

…it’s a new dawn, it’s a new day; that says a beautiful song, but this wasn’t true. My blog post, broken, near gone, only the first parts left. I contacted my sister if she can figure out it there are some forensic or archaelogic remaining. While waiting for an answer, i tried to remember what i had written yesterday to save at least the first quarter of my post. As it was Friday, i had luck and she had time to look into the database and found it, only the website hat problems due to PHP errors to display the revisions, but in the SQL database, everything was there. Puuhhhhhh, men i was so lucky that it was there. Since now i’m writing offline, in the editor, which my sis suggested todo anyways. With this feeling of heaving grown wings, i decided to get to the heaven a bit nearer. Thy also have here an an old volcano where you can hike, so lets do this. What is common here on this islands? Car Hiking, of course here was also an road up to the summit.

On the curved way up, with lots of hair pines, i loved to have a better car. As being grown up near the alps and having motorbike you know how to cruise this way up. Really a heaven for people who love to drive roads like this. AWESOME! But what was that? (I already ignore that lots of bicycles) People with longboard skateboards was racing down the well paved road from the old volcano and i gave to two of them a a hitch hike back to the top. Oh, btw, there is a new kind of bicyclers, tourists, who rent an “adventure” to get driven up and only have to drive down. Reading some comments on websites and LP guide that lots of accidents happened it thought, of course they will injure themselves. The bikes looked very save, but the drivers? Yeah, they where wearing a helmet, but it would be easier for everybody if they would NOT, because then they will die immediately and not hear them crying for hours till the ambulance arrives. Why? The only save item they worn was the helmet! Driving down with Flip-Flops, wearing no gloves or long pants. Darwin, thats your job!

Arrived in the State Park i felt the magic of this place, it looked like being on Mars. Lots of different kind of colours of red, brown an black. Okay, first up to the summit, “only” on 3.055m of course by car, get some pictures and then back to the lower located parking lot where the trails started. Weird, horses are allowed. Why i would do an horseback hike there? Never mind! Oh and there is an downwards trail where you get back to the road. Ähm, yah, thats also an way to hike and not loose weight. Due to the lack of time i only went down a bit, passed silverswords and already thought about that way back. The way down was so easy! Should i cheat and only to do the trail down and try to hitch-hike the way back to my car? No! I wanna get more fit and prepare myself of the upcoming hikes, so i made another 10 km hike.

Highlight on the trails? A men with injured leg and his more corpulent wife with a baby on her back hiked the way up. Not bad for them to get healthy, but is it a good idea to get a baby to this altiude? I don’t think so. Never mind, not my worries. I have to get back to the car and heading to Hana and the Wai’anapanap State Park where i would rise up my tent and thankfully sleep horizontally again. “The way to Hana” is described as an really awesome and dangerous drive everywhere. It was really nice, the best (not based on the condition) road i ever drove. I would like to describe it as the “green hell”, totally slippery, dangerous, one lane bridges and a lot of cars, without lights on!, trying to get back to their luxury hotel parks. In my direction? Only pleasure! No stupid tourist who is not able to handle a car on a curvy road. Instead there was an local in front of me who kept the 25mph speed limit and i followed him and saved about 20 minutes on the road. What i could see on the road? Almost nothing because it was getting dark and i really enjoyed the fast and curvy trip. I’ll drive the way back anyways, counter traffic wise, so i will have time at days to stop and see all that beauties. Due to the saving of time, i arrived short after sunset so i had time to setup my tent with some light.…(2014/12/19)
