(2015/02/18-19) … New Zealand doesn’t like me, that was totally clear now. The good plans for the next two days where gone. Instead, hanging out at the Spencer Beach Park, doing calls, speaking on answering machines, waiting for call back. Only the thought that it could happened worse, let me smile a bit more. Luckily i bought the evening before a bunch of beer and ice. Sitting in the park, drinking ice cold beer, eating daylong my muffins and waiting was definitely preferred instead of having this trouble somewhere else, like at my last overnight stop, or even worse, having nothing to eat and drink, sitting without shade or in rain, running out of batteries on the phone, no music. I had to stay at the park and had no chance to go to the beach, which was just a spit away because the area was a bit lack of phone signal, but i really needed to call or be called. After a view “sugar”-lager-beers of Speight’s the world hasn’t changed. The only thing what changed was my mood about the situation, again a story you have to tell instead of “boring” perfect vacation trips.
I was also even lucky that i haven’t got a souvenir, like my scar from the Pitbull attack, and was just more pushed for a very slow leaving. I had all the time in the world to pack, clean and re-pack my times multiple times. Also thanks to the local who camped just next to me and had with me nice conversations. His house was destroyed and he lives at a friends house now. Luckily the house of the friend was also damaged, but gets now some repair by the insurance and they had to sleep somewhere else. Insurance company paid his friend a hotel, but he has to camp a view weeks here in the park. He was also totally lucky that i had so much camping stuff for gifting and me that i didn’t had to trash it.
The communication with the car rental agency lacked of customer support because i had always to call them what todo next. But you have to know, that something breaks at cars, 4WDs, RV or caravans is already common business for my sister and me, nothing which worries us anymore. What break this time? The starter engine! I really thought that my weak battery will give me problems. After breakfast is tried to start the motor and you could hear the starter, heavy sound, trying to circle, aarrggghhhh, arrrrrgghhhh, but then decided for suicide. Burned! Shortcut for the battery, battery getting really hot, awful smell came out of the front. Okay, sightseeing cancelled 🙂
Finally, today, i got back at the car rental agency with a cab, got of course paid for that and got 120 NZD back for two days rental. Sadly for them, that i only had a quarter gas left in the car and hopefully for me, that they are not gonna charge me for that. Now i’m sitting at the airport in Christchurch, spend my last NZD for lunch, being with my blog up-to-date and be some kind of happy to leave New Zealand. Happy about that i already got a message from Gogo, my friend in Melbourne, “I have filled the fridge with beer and steaks, tent is also ready for you”. That sounds really good as a start for Australia. Australia/Melbourne, i’m coming! Now heading to the gates, waiting at the gates, maybe some beers….5 hours to go….
