Cold…aehm, i mean Goldcoast

(2015/03/22) … during the night several heavy rain showers came and i was glad not to have to sleep in a tent. In the morning the weather cleared up a bit and some sun rays came through the clouds. Now it was better to see where i stopped for the night, it was an old roadhouse (Tamrookum Roadhouse) which businesses has been closed. With new energy, i got from the breakfast out of the trunk, it was time to visit Goldcoast and Surfers Paradise. I was really shocked how the paradise looked like. Concrete Towers as fas as you could look and the bad weather did the rest to give it a sad-eyed view. Immediately it remembered me to Waikiki on Oahu, but realised that Waikiki has at least beautiful hotel parks and men made nature surrounding the concrete towers. Paradise? Maybe for the owner of the flats getting enormous rentals fees in their pockets? Definitely not a place where i would like to stay for a night. The parking ticket still in my mind i stopped in a parking house with 1h free parking, to stock up my goods and head later on to one of these free bbq spots i had seen in a park, which i had passed some minutes before.

Burgers, did i had in my mind, but 4 buns for $6 were too expensive and the $1 sandwich toasts was the better solution. Back at the Broadbeach / Pratten Park the rain had stopped and i had the bbq spot just for me. Look at the pictures….yes..they were so delicious as they look like and i had something to eat for the next 2 days. After cleaning up the mess, i walked the beach up to Surfers Paradise. Yes, the beach might be nice if the weather fits, but the rest…? Pictures along the the beach showing the glory time in the 60’s and 70’s where nice, but in my eyes there is almost nothing left. The Cavill Avenue converted to a big mall, where all famous brands in clothing and fast-food are present, combined with restaurants and bars. It didn’t looked very inviting to me, at least it had began to rain again. How to get back to the car? 45 minutes walking in the rain? No really, because i had spotted a tram which goes along the beach a few streets away and stops near my car. The money was it worth, to get dry back to the car. A short drive later, Burleigh Heads Beach was reached but also just for a short picture stop, based on the rain. Leaving the rain in the back mirror, passing Coolangatta with destination Stotts Island onTweed River, my free accommodation for the night, of course again in the car. You know, the rain…..
