Melbourne-Darwin Day 14 / a day in Alice Springs / Blazing Swan

(2015/03/08) …another day off, yay. The fact of having your budget in view, let me skip the payed attractions in Alice Springs and i choose with Tobi to drive to the MacDonnell Ranges to visit the Simpson Gap and have there a short hike. Yes, it was water there, but we both preferred no to swim there. We checked the hiking map at site and choose just to do the first km of the Larapinta Trail 1, starting at Simpsons Gap till we reached the first hill and had a pretty lookout. As it was really hot, we where a bit happy not have to hike the 20km to the old telegraph station. You really could spend here several days hiking and camping, but we only had one day off. On the way back we did a short stopover at the “spring” of Alice Springs, the “start” of the Todd River. There is no spring, just a waterhole, depending of the rainfalls. Like the days before, enjoying the sunset before heading back to the camp for dinner.

Todo or not todo, that was my question to myself if a saw a Facebook posting about Blazing Swan, the regional burn in West Australia which will happened from the 1.-7. April. My flight from Melbourne is on the 10th April. Tickets where still available; inland flights are not a problem; getting rental car in Perth is easy like everywhere; extending my budget not really possible and means sleeping more often in tent and car instead of a night in a hostel; changing my itinerary is possible, but this will cut my planed 4 weeks driving from Brisbane to Melbourne in a 2 weeks Brisbane to Sydney… thoughts and thoughts…. but otherwise, will you fly back to Aussie just for the Blazing Swan burn? Sure, but when? Then i did hit the buy button for the ticket…
