(2015/01/13-15) …the last nights where not really regenerating, woke up to often because i turned over and felt the arm hurting. Even this morning i woke up very early but this was good, because i had to pickup my burner friend Manhatten at the airport, who will accompany me to the Kiwiburn and share the ride. He was already aware what happened and with his jet lag he felt it also comfortable not to have a tough timetable each day. First stop with him was also at The Warehouse for buying tent and other stuff for the burn. Passing Pukekohe and the BurgerFuel for lunch with an damn good burger, we came closer to our first campground in Hunua. The tents where setup very fast. While Manhattan started our camp fire, i continued my work on the cube and started to paint it with undercoat. Due to the sun the undercoat dried so fast that i had enough time to colour and finish the first side in orange. While using the cube as bass reflex for my little speaker and the undercoat for reflecting the LED strip, it felt like a little burn. Thanks to Manhattan who really tried and got my thoughts away from my arm with his conversations and motivating words. The day ended with some awesome KitKat – GreenTea, he brought from Tokyo.
These motivating words let me drove southwards, because it wouldn’t make sense to hang around in Auckland, todo nothing. If my arm will get worse, i will feel it and the way to the next hospital wouldn’t be so far and doable. Rotorua/Te Puia with the hot mud pools, geysers and the Mauri Village was almost on the direct way to Hunterville/KiwiBurn. Okay so let’s do some standard tourist sightseeing. The expensive entrance price shocked me a bit, but i said to myself, why not, a easy sightseeing for my arm. I expected some better (higher) geysers, but nature has always it’s own will. It was still nice to see the bubbling mud, fountaining geysers, holes with boiling water and the smell of sulphur that was widely spread and smellable over whole Rotorua. Thanks to the app Wikicamps our place for the night was found very fast and it was totally worth to camp there. Awesome sunset with tent on beachfront and cold beer in the hand at Maketu.
A new dawn, a new day and my motivation came back in little steps, step by step. As we had our night at the coast we had to drive back and passed Rotorua again an did my first hike since a few days. It was a easy and nice trail between Redwoods (which where only about 100 years old, imported from the US) trees and it felt good to have a bit exercise. The conversation with Manhattan about the universe, gravity, time, space and how often live on earth was extinguished made this totally to forget about my arm. We found a nice free campground, Reids Farm, near Taupo where we stayed for the night and i continued my cube and two sides with colours. Manhattan came up with the idea that it would be maybe better to drive to Hunterville, because there is an campground just next to Kiwiburn and maybe there are already hanging out some burner. If not, we will be the first, post that we are there and started our own pre-burn. I liked the idea and the plan for tomorrow was fixed, of course with some ice cold beers…
